Who Is Thomas Sowell? |
|
Thomas Sowell was born in 1930 into extreme poverty in the Jim Crow South. His family moved to Harlem when he was nine. He dropped out of high school at 17 and joined the Marines. After the Marines, he started attending night classes at Howard University where he did well enough to gain entrance to Harvard University, graduating in 1958. He completed his master's degree at Columbia University and received his PhD in economics from the University of Chicago. For much of his twenties Sowell was a Marxist, but was convinced "by the data" that market-based economics produced better results. Ever since then, his analysis has put an emphasis on examining the data as a way to understand the world. Sowell has written 36 books, including The Economics and Politics of Race, Intellectuals and Race, and his most recent book: Charter Schools and their Enemies. He is also an eloquent speaker and appears in many YouTube videos. The following link lists his YouTube videos on slavery: Over 40 videos, mostly 5-10 minutes in length.
